Various reconstructions after distal gastrectomy (DG) for cancer have been performed under laparoscopic circumstances including Billroth I, Billroth II, Roux-en Y, reconstructions.

Various reconstructions after distal gastrectomy (DG) for cancer have been performed under laparoscopic circumstances including Billroth I, Billroth II, Roux-en Y, reconstructions. However, there was no hard evidences regarding their specific benefits over the others yet compared to reconstructions done with open manner in the past.

On my personal review of comparing three reconstruction methods for DG will be discussed. The results include evaluation for 4 peri-operative parameters; operative parameters (operation time, blood loss, and number of retrieved lymph node), postoperative recovery (postoperative hospital stay, time to first flatus, and time to first solid diet), postoperative complications(overall complications), and postoperative endoscopic finding symptoms(residual food, remnant gastritis, bile reflux, and reflux esophagitis).

As the principal investigator of KLASS07 trial which prospectively comparing intra- and extra-corporeal reconstructions after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for cancer, we conducted pre-study survey on the current status of anastomosis trends in Korea. The results from the survey will be included in this topic.
